T-case problem

My T-case is popping when engaged in 4 wheel drive. When you get on the gas or in reverse it pops and sounds like the driveshaft is binding but I know that is not the problem.The 4 wheel drive still works but it sounds like it is about to come apart. It is a 242 t-case in a 1988 Jeep wagoneer. Any help would be very welcome.
